What's inside

Everything you need.
Nothing you don't.

Thendrask combines a dedicated, opt-in GregTech workspace and guided first run with approved Modrinth and CurseForge browsing, pack imports, customisation, repair and backup tools.

Approved provider modules

Public builds now contain only Modrinth and approved CurseForge integrations. FTB, FTB Legacy, ATLauncher, and Technic code is excluded while provider approval is pending.

CurseForge installs that finish

Accessible pack files install normally. Author-restricted files move to a persistent manual checklist, where imported JARs or ZIPs are verified against CurseForge metadata and routed to the correct game folder.

Safer failure recovery

A renderer recovery screen replaces blank windows, startup continues when one data section fails, and imports enforce consistent expanded-size, entry-count, and compression-ratio limits.

Safer GTNH updates

Check official stable or opt-in beta releases from the GregTech Hub. Updates build a fresh instance, migrate your worlds and personal data, and leave the old instance untouched for rollback.

  • Official GTNH Prism releases
  • Fresh-instance migration
  • Old pack kept as a fallback

Verified community add-ons

Install curated GTNH community releases pinned to versions verified against the selected pack. The Hub also searches Modrinth for compatible GregTech mods.

  • Version-checked GTNH add-ons
  • Required dependencies included
  • Recovery snapshot before changes

Special builds, kept isolated

Preview beta releases or launch official GTNH special and April Fools builds without risking your main pack. Every manual install gets a separate instance.

  • Beta channel is manual opt-in
  • Special builds never trigger updates
  • No worlds or settings copied accidentally

Guided first run

A short setup wizard walks through Microsoft sign-in and optional community features. GregTech stays disabled unless you choose it.

Pack-aware defaults

Use the RAM amount recommended by each pack, or set your own. Optional video defaults can be written on first launch without overwriting an existing instance.

Chat compatibility

Optionally add No Chat Restrictions to modded instances for regions and servers affected by signed-chat restrictions.

Modrinth and CurseForge

Browse the two approved providers in public builds. CurseForge requests use the hosted Thendrask relay, keeping the project API key out of the desktop app.

  • Sort by popular, updated, or newest
  • Filter by modpack category
  • No personal CurseForge API key required

Universal pack import

Import Modrinth .mrpack or CurseForge ZIP packs from one Library button. Accessible files install automatically while restricted CurseForge files stay in a persistent manual checklist.

  • Live import and extraction progress
  • Official manual download links
  • Imported JARs and ZIPs verified by SHA-1 or MD5

Isolated instances

Every modpack - and every vanilla instance - lives in its own isolated .minecraft folder. Mods from one pack can never bleed into another, and your existing Minecraft install is never touched.

  • Per-instance .minecraft directories
  • Create vanilla instances manually
  • Per-instance play-time tracking
Supported sources Modrinth CurseForge MRPACK & CurseForge ZIP import

Custom modpack builder

Start with Fabric, Forge, NeoForge or Quilt, then search Modrinth for mods that match that exact Minecraft version and loader.

  • Compatibility-filtered mod search
  • Required dependencies installed automatically
  • Enable, disable, remove or update in-app

Safe pack updates

Before a modpack update is applied, Thendrask verifies the required downloads and snapshots the working instance. A failed update automatically rolls back.

  • Pre-update verification
  • Automatic working snapshot
  • Rollback when an update fails

Backups, repair & diagnostics

Create or restore snapshots, verify broken files, inspect storage and export a portable backup or sanitized diagnostic bundle from one screen.

  • Portable backup export and import
  • Verify, repair and clean reinstall
  • Sanitized diagnostic ZIPs

Live launch logs

First run downloads the Minecraft version and assets automatically via minecraft-launcher-core. Progress bars and full game output stream right onto the instance card in real time - no guessing if something is stalled.

Shader auto-install

Thendrask Launcher watches game output for missing EuphoriaPatcher shader errors and automatically pulls the right shaders from Modrinth - no manual hunting through mod pages or version tables.

In-app updates

The launcher checks GitHub Releases in the background and can download updates silently. When a build is ready, restart at a convenient moment without opening a browser.

Server monitor

Add servers to watch from inside the launcher. Thendrask Launcher pings each one and reports live status and current player counts - so you know before you launch whether the server is up and if your friends are already on.

  • Live ping and player count
  • Multiple servers at once
  • Status visible without launching the game

Quick connect

A dropdown next to the Play button lists every server saved in your instance's servers.dat. Select one and the game launches straight into it - no menu navigation inside Minecraft.

  • Reads servers.dat - no re-adding required
  • Uses --quickPlayMultiplayer on 1.20+
  • Falls back to --server / --port for older versions

Friends & presence

Add friends by code and see who's online and what they're playing in real time. Beta 6 configures the hardened hosted relay by default; presence is held in memory and expires after 90 seconds.

  • Add by friend code, no account required
  • See who's online and what they're playing
  • Hosted relay shared with approved CurseForge access
  • Discord Rich Presence integration

Secure Microsoft login

Authentication uses Microsoft's official OAuth flow via msmc. Thendrask never sees your password and stores only an OS-keychain-encrypted refresh token. If secure storage is unavailable, it refuses to persist the token rather than falling back to plaintext.

  • Official Microsoft OAuth - password never seen
  • Encrypted token in OS keychain
  • Open-source auth code - fully auditable

Seven built-in themes

Swap the entire launcher look in one click. Every theme is built into the app - no downloads, no restarts.

About this matrix

Last checked 18 August 2026 against Thendrask v0.5.8-beta.6 and public, official documentation. “Built in” means the launcher provides an integrated catalogue for browsing and installing that source; it does not cover manual archive imports. Public Thendrask builds contain only the approved Modrinth and CurseForge provider modules. FTB, FTB Legacy, ATLauncher, and Technic code is excluded pending provider approval. Prism’s FTB entry means FTB Legacy browsing plus FTB App import, not direct browsing of the current FTB catalogue.
